“Becky and the Wheel-and-Brake Boys” is a story written by James Berry. It is about a girl, Becky, who really wants a bicycle, but she isn’t able to get one….until the end. Becky is a credible character through what she feels, says, and does.
Becky want to fit in with the wheel-and-brake boys, but can’t because she doesn’t have a bicycle. For example, Becky thinks, “ I only want to be with Nay, Aldo, Jimmy and Ben.” They all have bikes and she wants one, too. This proves that she is a believable character because she just wants to fit in. Most children would want to be in a group, also.
In addition, she keeps begging her mom for a bicycle. One example is when Becky says, ”Over and over I told my mom I wanted a bike”, And when she tells her mom, ” I still want to have a bike badly.” She keeps asking her mom for a bike and even states she kept asking, which is proof that she kept nagging her mom. She is credible because a lot of kids would keep begging their parents that they want something until they get it.
Also in the story she gets in a fight with a friend but then makes up with her. As an example Becky thinks” For the first time, me and Shirnette had a real fight, because of what I hated most.”
To prove she makes up with Shirnette, Becky states in her mind, “I ride into town with the Wheels-and-Brake Boys now. When she can borrow a bike, Shirnette comes too.” Both of those quotes tell that they had a fight then made up because it says they had a real fight, and it says she rides with Becky. This proves that Becky is credible because a lot of best friends have a fight but they usually make up.
All of those examples prove that Becky is credible in different ways, so it is safe to say that overall, Becky is credible. That means that she is your average child.
